Alexandre Rossier

Aart van Bezooijen, Professor for Materials and Technology Transfer (Burg Material), 
Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle
 
Aart van Bezooijen is a Dutch materials expert based in Hamburg since 2005. Material Stories is where he brings together his industrial design training (TU Delft) with a passion for materials. His conceptual and experimental approach to materials inspires a more competitive, innovative and sustainable design. Aart loves work and travel in exploring local crafts and material culture and is cofounder of the project and book “Itʼs Not Easy Being Green: Two Designers Exploring Sustainability Worldwide”. Since 2012, he works as Professor for Material and Technology Transfer at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design establishing the Burg Material collection. In collaboration with Dr. Filipe Natálio he initiated GROW, a platform that supports interdisciplinary art/science projects since 2014.

 


Geert Jan Schellekens, Sr. Manager Industrial Design-Global Technology Automotive,  SABIC

Geert Jan Schellekens is SABIC’s senior manager of automotive industrial design. In his current role, he drives the front end of innovation for SABIC’s Global Automotive Technology team. His mission is to lead and support the team in developing unique and sustainable solutions that will enable automotive customers to achieve breakthrough improvements in automotive design and production.  

Geert brings a unique background to this challenge – a blend of expertise in engineering, industrial design and automotive styling. His career spans assignments at several truck- and coachbuilders (Benelux), Volvo Cars (Netherlands) and PSA (France). Between 1991 and 1995, he worked at Mercedes-Benz Design (Germany). In 1995, he joined General Electric’s plastics division (now a business of SABIC). Since then, he has consulted with many OEM styling and design groups across the world and contributed to various automotive design programs, including the iconic Volkswagen XL1.

He has a B.Sc. in aeronautical engineering from Haarlem Business School in the Netherlands, studied industrial design at Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) and holds a Masters in Vehicle Design from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London.

Brian Min, Senior Colour & Material Designer, Microsoft Surface

Colour and Material designer with industrial design background, focusing on innovations for materials and manufacturing process. Brian Min has been involved in various range of colour and material design projects with global brands including Samsung, LG Electronics, Corning and Hyundai Motor Company, etc. Currently based in Settle, working as a senior colour and material designer at Microsoft Surface.

 


Andreas Erber Casper van der Meer, Industrial Design Engineer/Co-founder, Better Future Factory

Casper van der Meer (Amersfoort, 1987) studied Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. He is co-founder of Better Future Factory, a sustainable innovation and engineering studio, with a strong focus on projects involving recycled plastic. Some of these projects evolve overtime into individual start-ups like the Perpetual Plastic Project, an interactive mobile recycling installation to recycle plastic waste into 3D printed products. Casper is also a guest lecturer at the faculty of architecture at the Delft University of Technology since 2013.

Chris Lefteri, DirectorChris Lefteri Design Ltd.

 

Recognized throughout the world as a leading authority on materials and their application in design, Chris Lefteri is one of the most instrumental materials experts working in his field. For over a decade his studio work and publications have been pivotal in the way designers and the materials industry consider materials. In 2001 he published the first of eight books on materials and the application in design, which have been translated into six languages. These books have led the change in the way designers view and use materials.

Subsequently his studio, Chris Lefteri Design, has worked with Fortune 500 companies and major design studios across Europe, the US and Asia implementing a broad range of strategies for effective materials integration in the design process. The studio’s distinctive cross-industry expertise in automotive, packaging, sports, furniture, consumer electronics and fashion leads to fresh approaches and bleeding-edge outcomes.

Lefteri is the editor and creative director of Ingredients magazine, which has a subscription of over 5,000 designers across the world. He has delivered lectures and workshops for amongst others: Nike, BMW, Philips Design, LG Electronics, Samsung, Dyson, Hyundai and Speedo. The studio also works with major material suppliers such as Corning Glass, Eastman Chemicals and Exxon Mobil helping them to communicate more effectively with the design


Daniel Liden, Design ManagerLenovo

Daniel Liden is a product designer with more than ten years’ experience of designing for the consumer electronics, automotive and apparel industries. Between 2011 and 2016, Daniel was based in China, most recently as lead designer for material innovation at Lenovo. During his time in China, Daniel gained valuable insights into how to provide high-quality user experiences in a fiercely competitive, cost-driven and disruptive market.

David is the editor for Plastic News Europe, the leading pan-European monthly publication and website for plastics manufacturers in automotive, packaging, construction and other sectors.

 

David Pascual, Global Market Segment Manager-Industrial Engineered PolymersLubrizol 

David Pascual was born and lives in Barcelona, previously he has lived in London and Mexico. He has a Chemistry (Industrial) degree by the University of Barcelona, and nineteen years of professional experience in the chemical industry. He has broad experience in global sales, KAM, time to market value chain, operations in Asia Pacific, industrial marketing, and product management. He holds a Sales & Marketing Executive MBA by Esade (2014), as well as a Master degree in Sports Marketing and Communication by Euroleague (2007) and a Master degree in Sports Marketing (2015). He currently holds the position of Global Automotive & Consumer Market Manager at Lubrizol engineered polymers. 


Doreen Becker, Global Color Strategist, A. Schulman

Doreen Becker has been involved in the coloring of plastics for about 20 years.  After graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, she started her career as an analytical chemist for an effect pigment company and then moved into a plastics applications position with Engelhard where she learned about industrial design, color trending and color styling.  At that point she decided to return to school and obtain a Masters in Fine Arts from the New School University (Parsons) in 2001.  

When BASF acquired Engelhard in 2007, she started her commercial role in market development for their specialty chemicals group (color and effect pigments for the plastics market   In 2013, Doreen joined A. Schulman as a Strategic Accounts Manager where she where she specializes in the packaging, personal care and automotive markets.

Doreen also creates and delivers color trend presentations for the fashion, beauty, electronics, automotive and architectural markets.  She has travelled extensively and given papers in Europe, Asia, North & South Americas.  Doreen is a member of Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), a chairholder in the Color Marketing Group and serves on the board of the Society of Plastics Engineers for the Color & Appearance Division.  She also holds 10+ international technical and process patents that involve the coloration of plastics.

Doreen wrote and published a book in June 2016 entitled: "Color Trends and Selection for Product Design: Every color Sells a Story" 

Erik Haastrup Muller, Founder, Futation

Erik Haastrup Müller has a master's degree in engineering with a focus on Design & Innovation. In 2009 he founded Futation which supplies inspirational material libraries to R&D departments, design consultancies, and educational institutions. The libraries include up to 400 different material samples of polymers, surface coatings, textiles, ceramics, and natural products.  


Hilke Schaer, Senior Consultant Fiber Composites in Visual Applications, BMW


Hilke Schaer began working for BMW in 1998 as a freelancer for BMW/Munich: Colourmatching for Interior and Exterior Materials. From 2003 - 2010 Schaer worked in design management for Colour & Material Design 1 Series, 3 Series, Z4, X1. From 2011-2015 she worked as Head of Design Advanced Materials: Research and Predevelopment of Materials Interior/Exterior. Since 2016, Schaer has worked for BMW/Munich as Senior Consultant Fiber Composites in Visual Applications BMW.


                           

Katharine Pulford , Head - Colour Materials & DesignLogitech

Katharine joined Logitech nearly three years ago, and leads a team of designers specialising in colours, material and finishes. Graduating from Royal College of Art with an MA in constructed textiles, Katharine’s first job was designing smart fabrics for Philips Electronics. Following this, she moved into home furnishings, designing carpets, upholstery and accessories for UK retailer Habitat. She later returned to industrial design, combining her passions for traditional craft and manufacturing innovation to build CMF strategies for all Logitech and UE product categories.

 

Brian Stephens, Founding Designer & CEO, Design Partners

Brian Stephens is co-founder and head of Design Partners. The agency has created generations of foundational products for clients such as Logitech, Honeywell and Phillip Morris. Their particular expertise is in the design of ergonomic products where both human factors and integration with the digital experience is critical to product success. Brian and his team have been recognised by over 200 major design awards including iF, Janus. Red Dot and the G Mark. He is a graduate of Birmingham City University and spent his formative years working in GK design in Tokyo where, among other projects, he helped design a tiny car specifically for the Japanese urban environment.

For more than 15 years, Peter Fuss is Partner with Ernst & Young in Ger-many acting as Senior Advisory Partner Automotive for Germany, Switzer-land and Austria.

Over the last 25 years he is advising Automotive companies on business issues with regard to strategic questions or commercial topics as for ex-ample Mergers & Acquisitions. 
 
Peter Fuss is Co-Moderator of the web-based Automanager.TV magazine, frequent speaker at Automotive Conferences (ie. Rebecca Heil, Manager-Idea.Lab, Covestro   

Rebecca Heil is leading the international design network at Covestro. Within the department Innovation Excellence her main topics are the facilitation of co-creation projects and the set-up of an internal incubation program. She started her career as Insight & Foresight Manager for the furniture industry where she worked closely with designers and international furniture brands.

Before joining Covestro Rebecca gained working experience at one of Europe’s leading Corporate Foresight consultancies and several consumer brands. She completed a Master degree in Futures Studies at FU Berlin and a Bachelor degree in European Studies at the University of Passau.


 

 

Steve May-Russell, CEO, Smallfry 

Steve May-Russell is a leading Industrial Design and Innovation Consultant and the Managing Director of the renowned product design and innovation consultancy Smallfry, based in Coventry, England. He is a well-respected regular speaker at international conferences and is employed as an innovation coach and designer to many global high street brands, working with senior managers to help invigorate and develop new and fresh product and service offerings.
